After two EPs, which shaped his signature take on industrial-leaning downtempo music with strong influences from UK bass music and ambient, LATE returns with his first full-length album on Amek. “Far North Eleven” offers a deeper and lengthier descent into thick atmospheres and sparse, contemplative melodies, soaked in despair. LATE’s subterranean bass lines are carrying outbursts of hypnotic, yet raw and bit-crushed percussion. “Far North Eleven” is not only the long-anticipated return of the Sofia-based producer but a huge leap forward in his constantly evolving sound.

After his acclaimed 2018 debut full-length “Limerence”, Stefan Bachvarov returns to Amek for his first vinyl release as Cyberian.

“Dark Orphism” is a meeting point between Bachvarov’s usual drifting electronic melancholia, his obsession with textured and detailed percussion, and his interests in paganism, nature, and the occult. Spanning over eight compact tracks, the album is moody and brooding, while somehow always remaining focused and direct. More beat-oriented and certainly noisier than its predecessor, “Dark Orphism” is an immense leap forward in the ever-evolving Cyberian sound.

amek053 VA "An Embrace" CS+zine

An Embrace' is a collaborative project between the Bulgarian experimental music collective Amek and the German music label Vaagner. Commissioned by Easterndaze as part of the festival’s fourth edition, 'An Embrace' aims to create a bridge between two communities from the different cultural environments of Eastern and Western Europe.

Each label invited artists from the respective regions to form four duos. Evitceles & Fortunes Brine, Zhe Pechorin & Anasisana, krāllār & Ekin Fil, as well as Vague Voices & Crosspolar collaborated remotely to compose a piece inspired by the project's theme – 'An Embrace.’ 

The final results are compiled and presented as a joint release between Amek and Vaagner, comprising of a limited edition cassette tape and a riso-printed zine offering further insight into the artists's creative process, as well as writings by S. N., Tsvetan Tsvetanov, Krisztián Puskár and Stanimir Panayotov.

Easterndaze x Berlin 2021

As part of the very special Easterndaze x Berlin 2021 Festival we are doing a collaborative release with Berlin-based label Vaagner. amek051 Angel Simitchiev & Linus Schrab "Airborne" CS

“Airborne” is a collaborative album from Angel Simitchiev (Mytrip, Dayin), also the first one released under his real name, and Linus Schrab (V I C I M, Thet Liturgiske Owäsendet, Purlieu Recordings). Throughout its seven tracks we observe two individual creative visions organically merging to shape a sound of its own.

“Airborne” was recorded in May 2019, during an intense creative weekend in Sofia, Bulgaria. The album showcases different facets of Simitchiev and Schrab’s rich musical palettes. From the ritualistic melancholia of opener ‘Initiation’, the industrial intensity of ‘A Smoke That Will Never Clear’, to the anemoia-inducing ghostly melodies of the self-titled piece and the dystopian, yet forlorn soundscapes of the album’s longest piece ‘Spores of Humanity’, “Airborne” is a work that combines ambient delicacy with the intensity of noise and post-industrial soundscapes. 

Recorded in Wind City Studio, Sofia on May 24, 2019. 

Minor edits and overdubs done in Spring, 2020.

amek052 Anarchist Mountains Trio "La terre et la force" CS

“La terre et la force” is a subtle, beautifully paced album reflecting the summer day in Montréal, Canada on which it was born. On this recording Anarchist Mountains, usually a duo of brothers Stefan and Jordan Christoff, are joined by Joseph Sannicandro.

The result is an exchange, rooted in sonic conversation and also a moment of communion, a point in spacetime with everyone together in the city. “La terre et la force” offers a momentary transcendence. Within carefully yet intuitively orchestrated layers we hear Joseph contributing electronics and street sounds from his travels around the world. Jordan pours his heart and soul in delicate synth scapes, while Stefan offers a needed edge through electric guitar tones driven by volume boosts, that he first experimented with in teenage punk bands. 

 “La terre et la force” by Anarchist Mountains Trio is a sonic spell summoned by three kids with Mediterranean roots in the Americas.

Our collaboration with FOCUS magazine by former Music Map writer Nicholas Burman is one of the most exciting projects we've done in 2020. The first issue is dedicated to Sound and so we contributed an exclusive mixtape featuring 12 unpublished tracks by Entrenched, Zhe Pechorin, fashiongore, EVITCELES, krāllār, Cyberian, LATE, Phlp., Trotsky's Gut plus a few anonymous pieces. 

The catch is you are the one who's making the mixtape - you get the magazine, find the link to the music hidden in the text, xerocopy the artwork and dub the tape. Keep in mind that the link containing the music will be accessible only while the magazine is in circulation.

FRISSON was a ray of light in an otherwise empty year for live music in Sofia, Bulgaria. This live compilation is our way to commemorate the event and the good times we had during its four days in early October of the cursed year 2020. The release features live and unedited bootleg recordings of new or unreleased works by the Amek Collective artists who were a part of the program alongside many other artists from the current Bulgarian electronic scene.
